Chinese National Geography

Chinese National Geography

Chinese National Geography, China’s version of National geographic published two Great Salt lake Photos in their 2011 issue about Salt.  The issue highlighted salt around the world.

Below is a description of this issue (translated from Chinese) :

If not see such a beautiful picture, would you believe there are so many charming original salt side of it? I’m afraid not. Of course, the issue’s cover shows is the sense of chemical salts, which includes not only the familiar salt, and common in nature and a variety of Glauber’s salt as the salt chemical industrial raw materials. Because of a wide range of salts of the world is so charming.
This issue’s cover, when selected, a variety of performance of salt crystals and salt concentration of the landscape pictures are shown out of colleagues in other departments to design room, the eyes cast a glance to those pictures on the wall, and without exception will be uttered exclaimed: What so beautiful? But they really want to make a choice from which to select the most eye-catching image, or to make some trade-offs and more. Because of the wonderful side of the salt is too much. This seemingly ordinary crystals, but in different colors and manifestations, in the land of magnificent building into a beautiful landscape of salt.
This example of Da Qaidam Salt Lake Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the lake area is great, but in the dry season, the lake brine table area only about one-sixth of the lake area. So in the dry season, salt lake resources in the solid out on the bare, gray cross the lake to form the landscape.
Also constitutes the landscape, as well as the salt karst Salt Lake. Salt Lake is a large potash deposit, because the brine concentration, crystallization time and the composition is different, here the formation of a salt-rich limestone, that is, people usually say Yanhua, ever-changing looks and shapes.
In addition to the salt composition of these vast landscapes, the microscopic world is also rich in salt, under the microscope, the family members of a large number of salts can show a different structure and morphology. Some crystal clear, some angular, more like a work of art.
But the editors feel that the picture with the performance of micro-salt, the salt may not be seen to be more ambitious beautiful scenes, such as Lop Nur salt lake in this picture, it shows the face of potassium and magnesium salt, salt the water is clear, the sky is blue, the shore transparent salt crystals and their echoes, creating a pleasing picture, so we think it seems more in line with the aesthetic requirements.
